Two Sneaky Books

I discovered two books today that look very interesting. Missy Chase Lapine first wrote The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals, then came The Sneaky Chef: How to Cheat on Your Man (In the Kitchen!): Hiding Healthy Foods in Hearty Meals Any Guy Will Love.

In both books, Lapine shares ways to hide what she calls "super foods" into many recipes as a way to add vital nutrients into the diets of our families. The books are available on Amazon.com and they have great reviews, including one from the author's husband.

I checked the database for the Central MS Library System to see if the books were available for loan, but nothing came up on the search.

By the way, for those readers who live locally, that website is: http://www.cmrls.lib.ms.us/

Love the new blog look! :D

Some sneaky ways to oomph up the healthiness...

*Pureed carrots or sweet potatoes added to spaghetti sauce or chili
*Wheat germ added to all sorts of things such as stews, rice dishes, p.b., etc.

Thanks for the tips Elysa! You might have to hold my hand and walk me through the world of wheat germ and other health foods...it's a whole new world! :)

I'll be glad to answer as I can...though there are different opinions on different things.

Wheat germ is easy though...buy UNtoasted. Store it in the fridge or freezer. And just be creative adding it to stuff. It can go in things like cornbread very easily and is a great thickener for stews. I put it in my fried rice dishes, sprinkle it in sandwiches, add it to my hamburger meat when making patties, or put it in my pancake batter. VERY EASY to add and really very good for you!
